If there is one thing I have learned from my experience, it is that there is immense competition for funding within the nonprofit arena. It is hard to find an organization with a mission that is unworthy. To that end, your messaging has to grab the attention of donors with just the right words – succinct phrasing that evokes emotion, impacts potential donors and demands a response.

In both a volunteer and employee capacity, I have been in the non-profit world for over twenty years. Most recently, I was in charge of marketing for an organization that serves children born with a developmental delay and/or disability. I have also served on the board of a nonprofit adoption agency for ten years, three of which I served as Chair. In this role, I was responsible for scripting and delivering speeches that outlined the mission of the organization and raised financial support.
